I promise not to blog about every well baby check, but just wanted to share a couple of funny moments from Gavin's 9 month appointment yesterday.
I started off the morning by kicking myself because I made his appointment at the same time he usually takes his first nap. What was I thinking? I was just setting myself up for potential disaster. As I'm getting Gavin dressed and looking at the clock, I realize I have plenty of time to stop and treat myself to my favorite Starbucks "tall, non-fat, no-whip, 1.5 pump mocha" (yes, that is how I really order it! I embarrass Donnie every time!) I scrounged up some change (that's how badly I wanted it) and headed out the door. As I pull out the driveway I realize I now only have 10 minutes until Gavin's doctor's appointment! WHAT? Where did the time go? No starbucks!? I was ticked. It seems that the battery in our huge wall clock in the living room is dying. :( It was about 15 minutes off! I was so seriously disappointed. Oh well.....maybe afterwards?
We get to the doctor and the nurse takes us back to the room and instructs me to undress Gavin down to the diaper for his 9 month "weigh-in". As I do this, I start to notice a smell coming from his diaper. Are you serious? I kid you not, every single time I have taken him for his well baby checks he poops at the doctor's office.....and every single time I change him RIGHT before we leave the house. You would think I would know better by now. I'm convinced that he either feels REALLY comfortable at the doctor's office or he gets very anxious. Either way, I always have to make the poor nurse wait on us which results in me getting kinda anxious and sweaty. :)
Gavin weighed 18lbs 7 oz and was 28 1/4 inches long. According to the growth charts that puts him at like the 20th percentile for weight and the 50th for height. Our little guy has slimmed down over the last 9 months considering he was in the 90% percentile for weight when he was born. :)
We do kind of an alternative vaccination schedule and this month he was due for his Polio vaccination and a heel stick to check his iron count. These shots are so much harder on me than they are on him. Those that know me, know I'm already a freak about the vaccines but then to watch them stick my poor little son's chunky thigh just breaks my heart. The heel stick came first - she stuck him once and no blood, so she had to stick him again! He didn't cry at all, but I almost did. I'm finding that motherhood has made me very sentimental....or should I say, even MORE sentimental. I am very "in tune" with my feelings, these days, and am not afraid to cry about it. :) Back to my story.....after the heel stick, came the shot in the thigh. Its times like these that I am thankful Gavin inherited his momma's thick thighs because, again, he didn't even cry! The funny part of my long, drawn out story is that after the nurse was finished she said to Gavin, "Good job, buddy....all done!" Gavin then proceeds to clap with excitement. (Clapping is a new skill that he has recently learned.) All I have to say is, who claps after a vaccination?
Needless to say, the whole event was more traumatic on me than it was on him. My precious little boy fell asleep in the car about 2 minutes after pulling out of the doctor's office. I got my starbucks afterall and felt like all-in-all it was a pretty good day. Below are some pics taken yesterday. He was pretty happy-go-lucky all day!

Thanks for sharing Meagan. I would die if they had to heel stick boston TWICE. OUCH. I can't believe he didn't cry. That's one tough kid. I'm glad you got your Starbucks.
Ha Ha! What is it with boys and pooping at the doctor's office?! Tyler pooped at one of his immunization shot appts. And of course, I didn't bring the diaper bag with me, I thought it was going to be a quick in and out and I had to squeeze him into a 3 diaper (he wears a 5)! What a tough little fella you have! Oh, what I wouldn't do for some Starbucks! The closest is two hours away!
Wow, what a great boy. I do believe those shots are harder on us, but I don't think my boys ever did that well. I am really not looking forward to taking Cameron for his kindergarten shots. At least when they are little they don't know it is coming!!!!
Love the pictures!
